The story of American Aviation

Commemorative Edition Printed by the
Goodfellow Historical Foundation
Exclusively in Recognition of the
Quiet Birdmen 100th Anniversary

QB Founder Harry Bruno (502, NY), authored Wings Over America in 1942 to tell the story of aviation– from its earliest beginnings to the developing air dominance in the skies of WWII. Harry was part of it all! He was a combat pilot in WWI, and after the war he continued to fly and became an aviation publicist, later partnering with QB Founder Dick Blythe (501), when they became friends and fellow attendees of a regular dinner gathering at Marta’s restaurant – the dinners that led to the creation of Quiet Birdmen.

Bruno’s firm drummed up publicity for everything happening in aviation – Fokker and Fairchild airplanes, Charles Lindbergh’s historic flight, sky typing, air races, Aeromarine Airways, Pan Am, airport development, Air Mail – you name it. Bruno was also present at nearly every notable event, having been on the Ford Reliability tour, the
National Air Races, flown aboard the Hindenburg, championed Billy Mitchell during his court martial, and convinced Vincent Bendix to sponsor the Bendix Trophy.

Wings Over America reads as a “Who’s Who” of aviation, and many of the pilots mentioned were Quiet Birdmen. This Commemorative printing includes Harry Bruno’s original works as well as an updated conclusion of how QB has grown, prospered, and continued to drive aviation accomplishments since the book’s original publishing!
